Alerts and Important InformationHastings Campground will be closed from May 28, 2010 until June 30, 2010 due to vegetation removal. Reservations will be accepted starting July 1, 2010 through the remainder of the season. It is important to note that upon opening, Hastings Campground will look and feel much different as a result of the complete removal of the dead and dying white spruce overstory scheduled to take place during the winter of 2009-2010. Initially, shade and screening between campsites will be significantly reduced. However, with the removal of the dense overstory, the existing hardwood species will thrive and provide increased screening and shading over time. Transporting firewood onto the WMNF that originates outside of New Hampshire and Maine is PROHIBITED. Our forests are threatened by nonnative insects that can kill large numbers of trees. The emerald ash borer, Asian long horned beetle and Sirex woodwasp are wood-infesting species that can be transported long distances in firewood. Once transported into new areas, these insects can become established and kill local trees. HOW YOU CAN HELP: Leave firewood at home-do not transport it to cabins or campgrounds. Use firewood from local sources.
