GRINDSTONE (VA), VA

Description

Located in the Mount Rogers National Recreation Area. Grindstone is in Fairwood Valley, with pastures and wooded hillsides. The valley is known for outstanding trout fishing in Fox Creek. Facilities provided include restrooms, picnic tables and two impact areas. Popular activities include fishing, hiking the nature trails, horseback riding and interpretive programs. Firewood is sold at the campground. There is a local store within 5 miles of the site. Water play area and playground equipment available.

Alerts and Important Information

Open for 1st come, 1st served camping from April 15th to November 30th.
Reservations may be made from May 15th - October 31st.
Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance.
This campground requires a 3 day minimum stay on holiday weekends.
Gate is locked at 10 pm.
Opossum Loop is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Golden Age and Golden Access customers must pay an utility fee of $4/night for sites with hookups.

Take Exit 45 on I-81, then south on Virginia 16 to Troutdale 20 miles. Go right on Virginia 603. Travel 6 miles to Grindstone Campground on the left. Cottontail is the second loop on the left.
