FREDS CREEK CABIN (AK), AK

Pan-Abode style cabin located on an oceanfront, rocky shoreline, with fairly flat terrain, and a spruce and hemlock forest. It is located about 6 miles east of Edgecumbe Volcano (dormant). 6.7 mile trail to cone of Mt. Edgecumbe through muskeg and forest starts near cabin. Cabin users may encounter tour groups passing by the cabin to access the trailhead for the nearby Mt. Edgecumbe Trail.

15'x18' Pan-Abode style cabin that can accommodate 8 people.
PROXIMITY: 5 miles south of Brent's Beach cabin.
Cabin is equiped with plywood bunks downstairs, a full sleeping loft accessed by a staircase, table, benches, wood stove and outhouse. It has no mattresses or cooking utensils. Cabin users should bring sleeping bags and pads, cookstove, cooking gear, and food. There is no protected boat anchorage.
A mooring buoy is provided but is exposed to rough water. Mooring buoy is available on a first-come,first-served basis for boat anchorage. Cabin reservations do not include exclusive use of the buoy. Firewood may be scarce at anytime. Access by boat or HELICOPTER. For boat or air charters, contact the Sitka Convention and Visitors Bureau at 907-747-5940 or www.sitka.org.

There are NO discounts for Golden Age Golden Passports for Alaska cabin rentals. The person holding the reservation must be 18 and must be a member of the party using the cabin. Reservations are restricted to a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights per party for any one reservation May 1 - September 30 and a maximum stay of 10 consecutive nights per party October 1 - April 30.

Effective November 17, 2003, reservations for Alaska cabins will be subject to a new policy allowing only one change per reservation. A change in reservation is defined as a modification to the start or end date of the reservation. After one change has been made, if additional changes are desired, the customer must cancel the reservation and at a later time, re-book the new dates. This policy has been established to assure that reservations for cabins are fair and equitable for everyone.

Reservations can be made the day of arrival, or up to 180 days in advance. Use by outfitters and guides is not allowed. Occasionally poor weather can result in delayed arrivals or extended stays, and cabin users should be prepared for this.

  • No protected boat anchorage.
  • A mooring buoy is provided but is exposed to rough water. Mooring buoy is available on a first-come,first-served basis for boat anchorage. Cabin reservations do not include exclusive use of the buoy.

Accessible year round, weather permitting. Located 10 miles west of Sitka on the southeast shore of Kruzof Island. Access is 30 minutes by boat from Sitka. Helicopter landing on beach is possible at lower tides. Refer to USGS topographic maps Sitka A-5, A-6. Local wave action on the beach may make landing dangerous or impossible. It is recommended that boaters avoid approaching the beach and unloading while the tide is turning. Inexperienced boaters or out-of-town visitors are encouraged to use the services of a local charter boat operator. No protected boat anchorage. Cabin reservations do not include exclusive use of the buoy.
