DEER CREEK CABIN (WY), WY

Description

There are no Walk-ins available at this site. Only reservations with 5 days advance notice are permitted.

This historic Forest Service guard station is located approximately 13 miles from Alpine, WY on the Bridger-Teton National Forest. It was constructed in 1933 by the CCC and it is available for reservations year round. The guard station has running potable water, a flush toilet, and shower available during the summer months only, approximately Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend. The kitchen has all the basic amenities including sink, propane stove/oven, propane refrigerator, table and chairs. Some dishes,pots, pans and utensils are provided, however the presence of these items is not guaranteed. The cabin has propane heating and lighting. It sleeps five (5) people on two (2) sets of bunk beds, and one (1) single bed with mattresses. NO linens or bedding are provided. Recommended items to bring are garbage bags, dish soap, dish rags, toilet paper, and a flashlight. Winter access to the guard station is by snowmobile only.

If you enjoy a primitive, backcountry camping experience, this cabin might be for you. Be aware that forest rodents, such as mice, ground squirrels, and marmots, may be present. Access is along a low-speed gravel road, so plan more time than you would for paved roads.

Alerts and Important Information

  • A permit MUST be reviewed and signed before occupancy of the cabin. Once this is completed, the combination to the cabin lock will be issued. A permit can be obtained at the Greys River Ranger District office at 671 N. Washington St., Afton WY Monday-Friday 8 am to 5 pm (excluding federal holidays) OR by calling (307) 886-5300.
  • Maid service is not provided. Cleaning of cabin is the responsibility of occupants. Cabin must be cleaned before you leave and in the condition you found it in or better. Please bring disinfectant.
  • The maximum occupancy for this site is five (5) people.
  • There is no cell phone coverage at cabin location.
  • There is no electricity at this site.
  • Water is available from approximately Memorial Day through Labor Day. If using cabin outside of those dates, bring in your own potable water.
  • Check-in is at 2 pm, check-out is at 12 noon.
  • Trash pick up is not provided. Bring your own garbage bags. You must pack out all trash with you.
  • There is a stay limit of seven (7) consecutive days.
  • Reservations must be made at least 5 days in advance.
  • Refunds will not be granted if you are dissatisfied with the site.
  • Out-of-state horses must have a current Coggins test.
  • Hay brought in must be certified weed free.
  • Off-highway vehicles are allowed only on designated roads and trails. A free map of designated roads and trails can be obtained from the District Office.
  • Off-highway vehicles and snowmobiles must have a Wyoming State sticker.
  • This is a no smoking facility.
  • Fireworks are prohibited on all National Forests.

From Afton, WY, take HWY 89 north approximately 31 miles to Alpine, WY. At Alpine, turn right (south) onto Greys River Road (FS Road #10138) and travel approximately 13 miles. The cabin is located on the left (east) just past Murphy Creek Campground.
