DARK CANYON (CA), CA

Description

Located approximately fifty miles southeast of San Bernardino, California, at an elevation is 5,800 feet. Campground is located in a forested area with a stream nearby; however, IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE ENDANGERED MOUNTAIN YELLOW LEGGED FROM, ACCESS TO THE STEAM IS PROHIBITED. Road and spurs are paved. Parking spurs may not be level. Some first-come, first-serve sites may be available. Campfires are allowed within the facilities provided. Firewood is not sold at the site. All campsites have picnic tables and fire rings. Vault toilets and potable water are nearby. Located 8 miles North of Idyllwild.

Alerts and Important Information

Dark Canyon Campground is closed for the summer of 2010 for reconstruction. For more information, please contact the Idyllwild Ranger Station at 909-382-2921 Effective September 1, 2009, through the end of the official 2009 fire season. All wood and charcoal fires are prohibited in all developed campgrounds , day use areas , and all other developed areas
Stoves using gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel are still allowed. Check with the local Ranger Station for current fire restrictions
Reservations must be made at least 3 days in advance. A site must be reserved for a minimum of 3 nights on major holidays. Some first come, first serve sites are available. The fee allows for a maximum of 8 people per campsite and entry for 1 vehicle and 1 legally towed vehicle. Additional fees of $5 per extra vehicle will be collected at the campgroun. Holders of Golden Age, Golden Access, America the Beautiful Senior or Access passports are entitled to 50% campsite fee reduction. Holder of the passport must be present. There are no refunds for inclement weather. Fire restrictions may be imposed at any time due to hot, dry weather conditions, at which time campfires and charcoal fires may not be allowed. Water may not be available. For current Fire or Water conditions contact the Idyllwild Ranger Station at 909-382-2922. Gas, jellied petroleum and pressurized liquid fuel stoves are allowed in campgrounds. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash at all times.

Fuel Reduction activities are in effect in the area and surrounding areas Monday-Thursday.

From I-10E exit 8th St in Banning, California, turn right onto 8th St, then left on Lincoln St, then right on San Gorgonio Ave/Highway 243. From I-10W exit Hargrove St, turn left onto Hargrove St, then right on Lincoln St. then left on San Gorgonio Ave/Highway 243. Go South on 243 for approximately 20 miles just past the Alandale Fire Station. Go East (left) at Azalea Trails Rd (Stone Creek Campground Road) for 2.5 miles
