Description

Lake Shelbyville is a favorite destination for fishermen seeking largemouth bass, crappie, white bass, bluegill, channel catfish, walleye and muskie. The lake offers hunting opportunities for whitetail deer, squirrel, quail, pheasant, rabbit, mourning dove and waterfowl.

Coon Creek Recreation Area is located north of the city of Shelbyville on the west side of the lake. Coon Creek has 207 electric sites of which 125 are reservable. Coon Creek has flush toilets, showers, a playground, a beach, trailer dump station and a boat ramp.

Alerts and Important Information

All beaches at Lake Shelbyville are closed until further notice due to high water conditions. Tent camping is always permitted, but for some sites not recommended. Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance. This campground requires a 2 night minimum stay on weekends. This campground requires a 3 night minimum stay on holidays. This is Coon Creek at Lake Shelbyville, Illinois. Is this the campground you are requesting? The camping fee in Coon Creek is $18/night single sites, and $36/night for double sites and $22/night for full hookup. This campground has first-come, first-served sites. 1 RV and 3 tents OR 4 tents are permitted for all single sites. 2 RV's and 6 tents OR 8 tents are permitted for all double sites. Some sites will not accommodate this much equipment. Check individual site notes. The banks are steep and it may be difficult to get to the water from many sites.

G&H Loops are open for the 2009 season on May 21 and close on September 8. Sites 64 through 116 open for the season at 8 a.m. Thursday on May 21, 2009 and sites close for the season at 4 p.m. on the day after the Labor Day, September 8, 2009. This Campground will open for 2009 peak season from May 7, 2009 through October 12, 2009.

To reach this campground, go 4.5 miles north of Shelbyville on Illinois State Route 128 to County Road 1750 north, then .9 mile east to County Road 1900 east, then north .35 mile to County Road 1785 north, then east 1.75 miles to County Road 2075 east then go south 1.7 miles.
