CHOCTAW LAKE (MS), MS

Description

Located five miles south of Ackerman, Mississippi, between Cabin Lake and Choctaw Lake. Terrain is hilly. Near Natchez Trace Parkway, Noxubee Wildlife Refuge, and French Camp. All roads and spurs are paved. Facilities provided include restrooms, sanitary dump station, and boat ramps. Campground host is on site. Temperatures are moderate to cool from March to May, and hot and humid from June to August. Cooling from September to November. Mid-summer nights are pleasant temperatures. Popular activities include picnicking, no wake boating, bike trail, hiking, fishing, bird-watching, swimming, and ADA walking trail around the lakes.

SITE AVAILABILITY 2010:

During peak season from May 1st - Sept 15th Campsites 2-12 are available on a 1st come 1st serve basis and campsites 13-21 are open for reservations.
All sites are reservable during following holiday days with a 3 day minimum:
May 29th - 31st
July 3rd - 5th
Aug 20th - 22nd
Sept 4th - 6th

Alerts and Important Information

New this year: 50 AMP sites.

Reservations must be made at least 4 days in advance.
Pets are allowed in all other areas (other than the beach) but MUST be on a leash at all times.
No alcohol; this is a dry county.
Quiet hours are 10:00pm to 6:00am.
Choctaw Lake is a No-Wake Lake.

  • Fishing limits at Choctaw Lake are as follows:
    • Bass daily limit is 10 per person with no size limit.
    • Bream daily limit is 25 per person with no size limit.
    • Catfish daily limit is 5 per person with no minimum size.
    • Crappie daily limit is 30 per person with no minimum size.

    We have a full time camp host on site 1. A Forest Service law officer usually patrols the area on weekends and nights and Forest Service employees are around the area in the daytime. County Sheriffs Office will respond if called.

    Day Use Parking or Boat Launch is $5.00 per vehicle. There is a dump station located at the front of the park.

    Located 5 miles south of Ackerman, 11 miles Northwest of Louisville, and 30 miles southwest of Starkville. From Ackerman: drive south 3 miles on Mississippi 15 to entrance sign. Turn left onto FS 967 and follow paved road to fee station. From Louisville: drive 11 miles north to entrance sign. Turn right onto FS 967 and follow paved road to fee station.
