BUTTE LAKE GROUP (CA), CA

Description

Butte Lake Group Campground is located at the north end of Loop B of the Butte Lake Campground in the north eastern part of the park and is 45 minutes from the main park road. It is within walking distance of remote Butte Lake. The area is dominated by large Ponderosa Pines and volcanic soils. The lake has a large black lava flow running out into the lake creating an interesting area for kayaks and canoes to explore. The main trailhead for hiking to Cinder Cone, the Painted Dunes, and Snag Lake is located in the Day Use Area.

Alerts and Important Information

DURING THE 2010 SUMMER SEASON ROAD CONSTRUCTION WILL TAKE PLACE ON 11 MILES OF THE MAIN PARK ROAD FROM MANZANITA LAKE SOUTH TO DERSCH MEADOWS, EXPECT TRAFFIC DELAYS.

Reservations must be made 4 days in advance.
  • There is no electricity/water/sewer site hook-ups at this campground.
  • All equipment must fit on the site pad.
  • Min 10 - Max 25 persons and six licensed vehicles per site.
  • Campers must have a valid entrance permit/pass before camping.
  • An entrance fee of $10.00 per vehicle will be collected at the campground.
  • No motor boats permitted on the lake.
  • Pets must be on a 6' leash at all times.
  • Pets must not be left unattended and are not allowed on park trails.

    CAUTION:
    Bears frequent the area. All food must be kept in approved containers.

    From Redding, drive 63 miles east on state highway 44 to Old Station. From intersection of state highway 89 and 44, continue east on state highway 44 for 11 miles. Watch for sign to Butte Lake Campground. Turn right and continue for 6 miles on a rough gravel road.
