BRENTS BEACH CABIN (AK), AK

12'x14' Pan Abode cabin constructed in 1985. It replace a well worn A- frame cabin built in the 1970's in memory of a former Forest Service district ranger's teenaged son Brent, who, alone with two friends, drowned nearby in Sitka Sound while halibut fishing. Cabin sleeps 6 people. Cabin is equipped with wooden bunks, table, benches, woodstove for heat, and an outside toilet. It has no mattresses or cooking utensils. Cabin users should bring sleeping bags, pads, cookstove, cooking gear, and food. SETTING: Just inside timberline on beautiful sandy white beach, spruce and hemlock forest, fairly flat terrain. ACTIVITIES: Beachcombing. Razor clams and saltwater fishing. PROXIMITY: 5 miles north of Fred's Creek Cabin, 1 mile from Krestof Island.There are NO discounts for Golden Age and Golden Passports for Alaska cabin rentals. The person holding the reservation must be 18 and must be a member of the party using the cabin. Reservations are restricted to a a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights per party for any one reservation May 1 - September 30 and a maximum stay of 10 consecutive nights per party October 1 - April 30. Large, erratic waves can occur at low slack tide. Avoid approaching the beach by boat and unloading while the tide is turning. Non-boaters or out-of-town visitors are encouraged to use the service of an experienced local boat operator. A mooring buoy (anchored in 16 feet of water with a 50-foot chain) is provided on a first-come, first-serve basis for boat anchorage. Effective November 17, 2003, reservations for Alaska cabins will be subject to a new policy allowing only one change per reservation. A change in reservation is defined as a modification to the start or end date of the reservation. After one change has been made, if additional changes are desired, the customer must cancel the reservation and at a later time, re-book the new dates. This policy has been established to assure that reservations for cabins are fair and equitable for everyone.

Reservations can be made the day of arrival, or up to 180 days in advance. All garbage and food must be packed out. Treat or boil water before drinking. Pack out all garbage. Occasionally poor weather can cause delayed arrivals or extended stays, and cabin users should be prepared for this. Local wave action on beach may make landing dangerous or impossible. Non-boaters or out-of-town visitors are encouraged to use an experienced local charter boat operator.

Accessible year round, weather permitting. Located 15 miles northwest of Sitka, in Crab Bay on the east shore of Kruzof Island. Access is a 35 minute boat ride from Sitka.
