BIG PINE CANYON (CA), CA

Description

Big Pine Canyon has two group sites, the Clyde Glacier and Palisade Glacier campgrounds. This campground is located 10 miles west of Big Pine, California, adjacent to Big Pine Creek. Unique in its situation, the campground is located in the stream bottom of a narrow canyon and is surrounded by high mountains.

Fishing and swimming are popular activities both in the creek and in the nearby lakes. The hills provide hiking opportunity through the various vegetation including Jeffrey pine, aspen and cottonwood trees. The glaciers in the nearby John Muir Wilderness also provide a fun hiking destination.

Reservations can be made from about mid-May through mid-September. They can be made up to 1 year in advance but they must be made at least 4 days prior to your intended arrival date.

Alerts and Important Information

  • All equipment must fit on the site pad.
  • There are two 35 foot and six 20 foot parking spaces at Clyde Glacier Group.
  • Palisade group is a tent only group site and has no RV parking. There are five 20 foot parking spaces at Palisade.
  • Check in with the campground manager upon arrival

    From Highway 395 in Big Pine, turn west at flashing yellow traffic light and continue west on Crocker Street/Big Pine Road for 9 miles.

    Group campground is just above Upper Sage Flat Campground on left.
