BASIN MONTANA CAMPGROUND (MT), MT

Description

Located 7 miles of west of Red Lodge, Montana on Forest Service Road #2071 which is paved to the campground. It is across the road from the Basin Lakes TH and access to the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness Area is available in nearby trailheads (Camp Senia, Silver Run Plateau, West Fork & Timberline Lakes). Three sites are universally accessible and all sites have fire grates and tables. Facilities include two hand pumps for potable water and five accessible vault toilets. The campground is forested and located along the West Fork of Rock Creek with medium length back-in spurs.

Popular activities include fishing in the stream and at Wild Bill Lake, biking the Silver Run and Ingles Creek Trails, and hiking into the wilderness. Local events include Home of Champion Rodeo on the 4th of July, Mountain Man Rendezvous in late July, and the Festival of the Nations in early August.

Alerts and Important Information

West Fork Road is under reconstruction which will cause delays. The work will restrict travel Mon-Thur from 7 a.m. to noon, open from noon to 1 p.m., then closed again from 1 to 7 p.m. After 7 p.m. the road is again open until 7 a.m. the next day. The road will be open Friday, Sat and Sun. Road conditions will vary from rough to good during those times. Reservations must be made at least 7 days in advance. This campground requires a 2 night minimum stay on weekends and a minimum 3-night stay on holiday weekends. Several sites are designated first-come, first-serve for use throughout the season. The camp generally opens mid-May and closes the third or fourth week of September for full service; camping may be available outside the full service season. Sites 2, 16, and 28 are accessible for people with disabilities. The administering organization reserves the right to substitute sites without prior notice. Two non-towed vehicles may be parked per site; the first vehicle is included in the basic fee, the second is charged an extra $8 collected at the campground.

CAUTION:Bears frequent the area. All food must be kept in approved containers, locked vehicle, or food storage boxes provided at the campground.

Located 74 miles northeast of Cooke City, Montana, and the northeast gateto Yellowstone National Park or 7 miles west of Red Lodge, Montana, to Basin CG. From 212 go to south end of Red Lodge, turn west on Westfork of Rock Creek Rd #2071. Go 7 miles, campground is on the right.
