BAKEWELL LAKE CABIN (AK), AKDescriptionThis cabin is not available for reservations until further notice. Cabin is a 12' x 14' Pan Abode design with sleeping capacity for 4- 6 people. Beds are wooden bunks single person upper bunk and double lower bunk. The cabin is equipped with table, benches, oil stove for heat, outhouse, and a skiff with oars. It does not have mattresses or cooking utensils. Cabin users should bring their own sleeping bags, pads, cook stoves, cooking gear and food. Reservations are restricted to a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights per party for any one reservation May 1 - September 30 and a maximum stay of 10 consecutive nights per party October 1 - April 30. The person holding the reservation for this cabin must be at least 18 years of age, and must be a member of the party using the cabin. There are NO discounts for Golden Age or Golden Passports for Alaska cabin rentals. Fish pass located near outlet of lake. Access is by floatplane. This cabin is in a designated Wilderness area, and access by helicopter is illegal. Cabin surrounded by old-growth forest of spruce, hemlock and cedar. Fish include dolly varden, cutthroat trout and salmon species, wildlife viewing. Brown Bears in area, learn necessary precautions.Effective November 17, 2003, reservations for Alaska cabins will be subject to a new policy allowing only one change per reservation. A change in reservation is defined as a modification to the start or end date of the reservation. After one change has been made, if additional changes are desired, the customer must cancel the reservation and at a later time, re-book the new dates. This policy has been established to assure that reservations for cabins are fair and equitable for everyone. (Latitude, Longitude): 55.26056, -130.67111 Approximately 40 air miles east of Ketchikan on the mainland south of Bakewell Arm of Smeaton Bay. Accessible by floatplane, or boat with mooring buoy to Smeaton Bay and canoeing 2 miles to the cabin. This cabin is in a designated Wilderness area, and access by helicopter is illegal.
