AMERICAN RIVER GUARD STATION (WA), WA

Description

American River Guard Station is located about 40 miles west of Naches, Washington on the banks of the American River in the eastern Cascade Mountains. The rustic cabin and outhouse were built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1941. Activities in the area include fishing, wildlife viewing, birding, hiking, and winter play. The guard station is near trails leading into the William O. Douglas Wilderness and just 10 miles from Bumping Lake. Summer temperatures are generally sunny and warm with little precipitation.

The cabin is part of a group site with a capacity of 8 people and up to 4 passenger vehicles. The site includes a furnished cabin with a kitchen, living room, small bedroom, finished second story sleeping loft, outhouse, and outdoor picnic table and fire ring. The cabin has electricity and light fixtures, as well as a wood stove,range and refrigerator. The cabin DOES NOT have running water or indoor plumbing. There is a coffee pot, dishes and utensils, dining table and chairs, a full size bed, two twin beds, a queen size sleeper sofa, side tables, and a variety of cleaning supplies. A supply of firewood is not guaranteed, but is often available.

Alerts and Important Information

Security is provided by access through a locked gate and by locked cabin doors. The combination to the gate lock will be included in your confirmation letter. This same combination will open a security box by the main cabin door that contains a cabin key.

Reservations must be made at least 1 day in advance. This rental site requires a 2 day minimum stay on weekends and 3 day minimum stay on holiday weekends.

Wood for the wood stove may be available but is not guaranteed.

Livestock is not allowed, but pets are welcome.

There are no utility hookups.

There is no potable water at this site. Visitors must bring plenty of water for drinking, cooking and washing. Water can be obtained from pitcher pumps at neighboring campgrounds (such as the nearby American Forks Campground) during the summer season only.

Please bring your own garbage bags. This is a "Pack it in, Pack it out" site. Trash may be disposed of at the American Forks Campground during the summer. Visitors must clean the cabin prior to departure.

Please bring sleeping bags/bedding, as well as a flashlight or lantern for emergencies, first aid kit, washcloths and towels, and dish soap.

All Forest Service Cabin Rentals are No Smoking facilities. No charcoal stoves, candles, or other open flame devices are allowed in the cabin.

Please contact the Ranger District prior to arriving at the cabin/lookout rental to check on any restrictions or conditions, such as fire closures, road, weather or storms, etc, that may affect the quality of your visit.

From Naches, Washington follow US Highway 12 west for approximately 4 miles to State Route 410. Take Highway 410 for about 36 miles to Bumping Road 1800. Turn onto Bumping Road, cross the bridge, and take the first left right past the bridge. You will see the cabin, access road, and gate on your left.
