Description

Wildwood State Park comprises 600 acres of undeveloped hardwood forest, terminating on the high bluff overlooking Long Island Sound. Swimmers can take advantage of the cool waters of the Sound, and picnickers can relax at shaded picnic tables as their children enjoy the nearby playground. Visitors can fish and use the hiking and cross-country ski trails, making this an enjoyable place to camp and be outdoors in any season.

Geography:

Wildwood State Park is located near Long Island Sound, on the north shore of Long Island, in Suffolk County.

Recreation:

Visitors will enjoy the beach, biking, camper recreation programs, fishing, hiking, picnicking, and cross-country skiing. During July and August, movies are shown weekly, and once a week, campers can enjoy an evening of line or square dancing. The park's fall festival occurs every October.

Facilities:

The park has 2 miles of beach on the Long Island sound for fishing and swimming. Each campsite has a picnic table, and dumping stations are nearby. The campground recycles newspaper and cardboard. Other amenities include food concessions, a nature trail, twelve miles of marked hiking trails, a picnic area, basketball courts, ball fields, a playground, and showers. Firewood is for sale at the park; bring your own barbeque or metal fire container.

Alerts and Important Information

To insure fairness for all NY customers, any reservation with departure dates outside the 9-month Maximum Window can not be changed or cancelled until 18 days after the reservation was made.

  • The camper must be 21 years of age or older to reserve and occupy a site.
  • No alcoholic beverages permitted.
  • Each site has a maximum of two tents per site and 6 people.
  • Campers must check in and set up by 9 p.m. or risk losing the reservation.
  • No tents allowed in the trailer sections (any site numbers that start with a `T`).
  • There is a 14 day maximum stay at the park. After 14 consecutive days camper must leave for 48 hours.
  • A second car is not allowed to enter campground to load or unload equipment. The car must be parked in the parking lot. There is a fee charged the first night for up to 14 days.
  • Loop A, C & E CLOSED after Labor Day.
  • Loop B, D & T are open for reservations until Oct 11, 2009.
  • Pets are not allowed at the park.
  • Water for drinking is located throughout the camp.
  • All campfires must be in metal containers above ground.
  • Bring your own barbeque or metal fire container.
  • Fire wood is for sale at the park.
  • No rugs, mats allowed on grass.
  • Each site has a picnic table.
  • The campground recycles newspaper and cardboard.
  • Pools are not allowed anywhere in park.

    During July & August movies are shown every Wednesday & Saturday, line or square dancing every Friday night. Also available is twelve miles of marked trails, basketball courts, ball fields, playgrounds and more.

    **Annual Fall Festival at Wildwood will be SEPTEMBER 26, 2009 from 11am to 4pm

    Peak season: A person may be the primary site occupant for 14 total days of camping within a 16 day period. S/he must leave the park for 48 hours once they have stayed the maximum number of days allowed before beginning a new reservation.

The park is 73 miles from Manhattan. Take Long Island Expressway to Exit 68. Go north on Route 46, to Route 25A East. Turn left onto Sound Avenue, then left at the traffic light onto Hulse Landing Road. The park entrance is on the right. 631-929-4314
