Description

Camping and a wealth of other outdoor activities are available only 20 minutes from downtown Oakland at the 5,067-acre Anthony Chabot Park. It's a beautiful year-round public campground, with a marksmanship range and miles of hiking and riding trails. These unique outdoor offerings make Chabot one of the area's most varied parklands.

Geography:

Anthony Chabot Regional Park is located in the hills of Oakland, in Northern California.

Recreation:

Visitors can explore miles of beautiful hiking, riding, and bicycling trails, which wind through grasslands, chaparral, and shady eucalyptus groves and stretch along the shores of Lake Chabot. The East Bay Skyline National Trail, which traverses 31 miles of East Bay hills from Richmond to Castro Valley, runs the length of the park. Chabot is connected to Cull Canyon Regional Recreation Area by a six-mile section of the Chabot-to-Garin Regional Trail.

Facilities:

Overlooking Lake Chabot is Chabot Family Campground, a year-round getaway only minutes from the city. The campground has RV, trailer, tent, and walk-in campsites, hot showers, naturalist-led campfire programs, an amphitheater, and hikingfishing access to Lake Chabot. There are reservable group campsites within the park, call 1-(888) EBPARKS (1-888-327-2757), Option 2, then 1, for group sites.

Nearby Attractions:

Chabot Park is located in Oakland, near many museums and cultural attractions. The city of Berkeley is one city over, and there are many other beautiful towns to visit in the East Bay. A quick trip northeast takes visitors to Sacramento, or even Lake Tahoe. Cross a bridge and visit San Francisco or its Peninsula, home to Stanford University and beautiful sunshine.

Entry gates are locked every night: no vehicle entry after 10:00pm each night until gates are opened the next morning.

RESERVATIONS ARE SITE-SPECIFIC, SO MAKE SURE THE SITE YOU CHOOSE MEETS YOUR NEEDS: While choosing your site, please take note of the length of the pad and the other site information provided. Any changes made after the reservation has started will be treated like a cancellation.

Regional Park Member Discount is AVAILABLE ONLY BY PHONE at the time you make your reservations. This discount is NOT AVAILABLE ONLINE; and no refund/credit can be given later. Call Reservation Services and request your discount when you make your reservation.

Generators ARE NOT ALLOWED at this campground. All sites have a 10 ft. picnic table and a fire circle and a barbeque. Hookup sites at Anthony Chabot have hookups for electricity (30 amp), sewer and water connections.

LATE ARRIVALS: If you are going to miss the first night of camping but you do intend to camp at the park, please call the Anthony Chabot Park staff at (510) 639-4751 and let them know when you expect to arrive. If you do not arrive at the park for your first night of camping and do not call by 10 a.m. on the morning of your second day to inform park staff that you are still coming, your campsite will be given away.

PARKING: You may have a maximum of two vehicles at your site. The first vehicle is included with your reservation. Any additional vehicle will be charged an Extra Vehicle Fee of $6 per night upon arrival at the park. All vehicles must fit on the parking pad at your site.

There are several access points to Anthony Chabot Regional Park, located on Redwood Road in Oakland. From I-580 westbound in Castro Valley, take the Castro Valley exit and turn left at Castro Valley Boulevard. At Redwood Road, turn right. (From I-580 eastbound, take the Redwood Road exit and turn left at Redwood.) After about two miles on Redwood, you will first come to Willow Park Golf Course, then Lake Chabot's Proctor Staging Area, both on the left. Another few miles will bring you to Marciel Gate at Marciel Road. This is a hiking and equestrian staging area, and Marciel Road leads to a group camping area, a marksmanship range, and the Chabot Family Campground.
